Top Club this week: TALLAGHT 760 Pts Top Fancier : J & R BRACKEN 257 Pts Winning Fancier: M/M Brendan Boughton. Topped the race flying 174 miles and 360 yards with a blue cock Vel 1411.602 y/min Sarsfield RPC Report From every cloud comes a silver lining and that’s just what happened this week. As the disaster of Skibbereen unfolded on Saturday, there were brave birds making it through the gloom. The first of these in the Fed was into the loft of M/M Brendan & Shelia Boughton of the Sarsfield RPC. Brendan has been in pigeons practically since birth and his father Andy was one of the main men pushing for the clubhouse we now have. They topped the fed back in 79 and since his split from the dad his best performance has been 2nd fed. My memories of Bren go back to The Old Pine Tree when he did all the paper work. He took all the young lads interested and showed us how to calculate velocities and make up all the pool money. He was always active on committees and is still one of the most respected men in the club. Back to the race, the winner is a 3 year old Blue Cock, the g,sire was bought from Pat Byrne whose sire had 3 X 1sts, the Dam is from Mick Flynn’s Van Reets, this line has been responsible for 2 X 1sts for Brendan including a 5th Open from Penzance. When I asked him about the cock he told me he is a cranky, type of pigeon and it would have been pure single mindedness that got him up on the day. On behalf of the members of the club we want to offer our sincere congratulations to both Brendan & Shelia on a terrific win. -Kevin Barry |
