B. Harris DNE

This weelks fed winner is Billy Harris of Dublin North East. Billy takes a active role in the running of his club as secretary as well as racing a good bird so I asked him to tell us his story for this issue of Racing News.

"Hi Mick firstly I would like to thank you for asking me to give you some information regarding my ISRF win, and also complement you on your role as fed PRO. I fly in the Dublin North East which has membership of 26 with a birdage of 300 to 400 weekly and is always amongst the top 3rd or 4th clubs in the ISRF, with this season being particular good.

I try and start each season with 24 cocks and 24 hens all flown on roundabout and would race them this way for the whole season, with no more than 60 young birds yearly. The main family of pigeon I keep is Willy Van Herck via my good friend Philip Boal of Dromore Co Down who himself is having a fantastic season. Since introducing this family of birds they have won for me from every race point right out to St Mallo in France.

They have helped me win my club average for the last three years and I was runner up Old Bird Ave winner within the ISRF 2011 and Old Bird Ave winner ISRF 2012. This season I have won 9 club first, 3 of which were off the channel which gave me great pleasure. My advice to any newcomers is only buy from a fancier who has a winning family of pigeons and doesn’t keep loads of stock birds.

The fed winner is a 2 year old blue pied Van Herck cock with 10 club position and 97TH Fed 10790b, 43rd Fed 9990b, 31st Fed 7592b, 21ST Fed 6163b and 8TH Fed 4841b to his credit.

There is a funny story behind this cock, last year I was asked to put some pigeons on the Pipa site in the best of Ireland and England auction, all three that I put up sold so I sent the birds off to Pipa in Belg. Some time later I was told that due to unforseen circumstances the buyer had to pull out of the deal and two of my birds were to be returned. You guessed it the winner was one of them.

Again thanks Mick and keep up the good work

Yours in sport  - Billy Harris  "

Billy flies 180 miles 1550 Yards from Skibbereen and his 2 year old cock topped the federation with a winning velocity 1582.519 y/min  with 381 members competing sending 4081 birds.

As you can see from Billys article. - shows that a good line of birds and good management will give good results.
